Observation details
Fantastic find by Will Doel last evening. It may have come in with the dickcissels a few days ago and gone undetected until Will found it. When I arrived this morning, I immediately heard it singing but couldn’t find it. Blake came soon after and he spotted it at the top of a bush. For the next hour and a bit, 7 of us watched it fly and land on 3 particular bushes. It often sang from the air, doing some sort of flight display to about 30 feet. It was about 75-100m away most of the time. All black bird with a prominent white wing patch and some white at the end of the tail. Large, silvery bill, large head. It showed a light coloured “eyebrow” on both sides - I’m not sure if this would indicate a second year male? Record photos, digiscoped photos and recording attached.
