Observation details
Cannot believe we caught up with this bird! Seen on campus here: (25.9110643, -80.1386276). Fairly active, flying around this quad, including into the fenced off pool. It was mobbed aggressively by BLJA, NOMO, and GRKI. It eventually settled on a blue, second-story staircase here: (25.9111361, -80.1383865). This seems like an oft used perch as it returned back to it twice during our time with the bird and there are lots of droppings underneath (of which we witnessed two). It vocalized a fair bit during the height of the BLJA mobbing. A medium sized raptor, pale creamy below, including face and crown. Light brown, blurry streaking on breast, turning yellowish on sides of neck. Dark back with pale tipped coverts and wingbar. Black postocular stripe. Yellow cere. Bill dull bluish gray, paler towards tip. Legs of similar color as bill. Wings with pale window/crescent at base of primaries. Long tail banded near base, darkening towards tip. Long primary projection stopping about 3 inches above tip of tail. Photos.
