Observation details
!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it actually happened! Thanks to Cam's recognition of some solid habitat we got 2 individuals to respond after about 15-20mins of playback. After hearing a couple single hoots towards the end, we discussed if we really heard anything at all and then we heard a clear response! I tried some more playback and it came closer, giving us pretty good recording opportunities. Eventually we saw it flying over our heads and at one point we saw 2 flying over! Maybe a pair? Eventually we got a really solid 2 second look at one perched at close range in our lights, if I had remembered my thermal we would probably have gotten pics. Tiny brown and gray owl with jet black eyes. Unfortunately a GHOW came busting through and that shut them up, but a ridiculously good experience, especially with an owl species I was unsure of even being around in the county! My 10th owl species in the county! Out of respect to the fact that Tekoa Mountain is all private land, I've decided to keep the precise location secret. This point is not the location we had it.
