Observation details
Bird associating closely with a Piping Plover in the vicinity of nesting Least Terns. Bird was very active (and fast) running among the tern colony and ran great distances and returned several times to the Piping. Bird was found after 8:00pm but allowed good comparison with the Piping and was watched for over 20 minutes. I left the bird and it appears as if it was going stick around. Very light colored bird with a very thin black bill and pale gray legs. Dark black horizontal lines on the sides of the lower neck/upper chest, appearing like a portion of a necklace, dark ear patch/smudge behind the eye, and very dark contrasting forehead band. Photos are posted on the Carolina Bird Club website photo gallery.
