Observation details

Amazing!!; maximum five (as previously reported) in view at once over the woods SE of the bog. Later two birds were flying over and along the south edge of the bog together for over twenty minutes, and appeared territorial towards other raptors, jostling with a Red-tailed Hawk, a pair of Broad-winged Hawks, and even diving at a male Red-winged Blackbird singing from the top of a tall Norway Spruce. Others have observed and photographed one or more of the kites carrying nest material so it seems certain that they are nest building nearby. This group of five may include the young from a successful breeding in the area in previous seasons!
