Observation details
Large numbers of birds (elongated outer rects, dark navy blue upperparts, orangish underparts, etc.) foraging right above the seaweed-covered riprap on the south and east sides of the island, sheltered from the wind. 20-30 birds between Lima Pier and Picnic Point and 50-60 between Lima Pier and the NYC Ferry terminal, all in view at once for a spectacular scene. Fairly homogenous flocks—two TRES and one NRWS among them. A few elsewhere on the island, but I consolidated numbers.
