Observation details

Male was first seen feeding on sap from a small pine tree. Copulation occurred nearby in a large pine tree. Then the male entered a nearby nest hole in an Aspen tree and continued excavating the hole, throwing out several beaks full of wood chips. Meanwhile, the female moved to the feeding tree. We watched this pair for at least a half hour. Numerous high-rez pictures were taken.
