Media notes

This is an edited version of audio 1, in which chatter from other gulls have been removed. It contains less call phrases from the glaucous gull, but is helpful for differentiating the GLGU call from the pack.

Observation details

*SY bird continuing on the pier among mostly ring-billed gulls and pigeons. Very content to sit an arm’s length from my car door and eat suet. Protecting its food source fearsomely from pigeons as well as smaller American herring gulls, though it did eventually yield to a very large AHGU. Vocalizing regularly giving a soft whine similar to AHGU, though perhaps slightly more gruff. Long call, given twice, was surprisingly quiet. Photos and audio
