Observation details
***MEGA. Presumed second-year male (or very delayed third year male?). Was loosely associating with a flock of Mallard when we arrived, but after about 20 minutes swam away from them. The rest of the time it was either alone or not too far from a Mallard or two. Dove about fifteen times as we watched it, spreading its wings in a manner most similar to White-winged Scoter. Also seen briefly in flight. Plumage. Similar to adult King Eider and at first I thought it was given the distance. As it got closer we could see knob on bill was not as large as adult (or even third year; Pyle) wing coverts not uniformly white and some brown in face and breast.
