Note of interest: the Arizona Black Rattlesnake (Crotalus cerberus) was once considered a subspecies of Prairie Rattlesnake (formerly Western Rattlesnake), and was known as C. viridis cerberus. It was then considered to be a subspecies of what is now the current Western Rattlesnake and was known as C. oreganus cerberus. Now after DNA analysis, Arizona Black Rattlesnake is considered to be its own species.
