Observation details
Insane number of kites in one mega flock all streaming south with the storm. I’ve never seen anything like it. Tried to count by hundreds. First noticed a “small” kettle of ~300 birds. Once I put them in binoculars, behind the entire sky was just dotted with birds. Scanned front to see the entire area was dotted with all miki. Tried to estimate. +\- a few hundred. Bad video taken, not really helpful but will try to upload and show scale of bird density . Insane. EDIT - Adding media. First video is with my phone trying desperately to capture part of the flock as they streamed high with the storm. Unfortunately high birds and iphone cameras in bright light do not mix. Second video is from the first video, just cropped and contrast is set to max so you can at least see the sheer density of birds. Imagine that across the entire sky moving with the front. Could have been more birds than my quick assessment. Hoping ebird does not compress these too badly.
