Observation details
These Cacking Geese appear to be the Aleutian subspecies. Birds of the World says that Aleutian Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii leucopareia) have "Neck collar present in adults" Some of the birds in these photos have that. Also, this flock flew in from the upper part of the Bay, across the mudflats at Mud Bay and landed in the dry area of Mariner Park Lagoon and began grazing. About half an hour later they all stopped, looked up at an eagle overhead, and decided to leave. Apparently, the flock then went to Beluga Slough, where they were seen.
