Observation details
We flushed a bird from the reeds as we walked along the edge of the sewage ponds. It had dark wings and a white back in flight. I knew immediately it was a bird I've never seen before. It landed not fsr away. It was the size of a tanager. It had a tan-colored neck and back of head with a full black face. The rump and back appeared white and the wings had whitish markings. It had black breast belly and underparts. It had a fairly thick finch-like beak. It was unmistakable and adult male in breeding plummage. Pictures taken through scope
