Observation details
When first seen on an approach from the north, the subject bird was thought to be a Turkey Vulture, due to the manner (similar to that of a TUVU) in which it held its wings. As the bird flew closer and then overhead, it became clear from the wing:body aspect ratio that it was instead a buteo. Gray overall, with barring on primaries, and no brown on the upper parts supports identification of individual as a Zone-tailed Hawk while ruling out a Common Black Hawk. Photos obtained.
