LN. c) 7:30 AM. After playback of Trinidad recordings. Quality: 2. Level: +2 & Quality: 1-2. Level: 0. LN. d) 8:00 AM. "Natural song." Drymophila caudata is prominent. Quality: 2. Level: +2. 7.5 ips. LN. 11 Oct 1973, ~ 7:50 AM @ km 11: I heard song by this species coming from the thicker growth on the down-slope side of road. A few minutes later I began playing the recording from Trinidad. A fully adult, quite black, bird reacted immediately approaching first low through the grass, coming up quite close; later it reacted by flying back and forth in the trees. It sang a little and at one time I thought I saw another bird with it. Then it stopped reacting but when I tried playback again at 8:30 AM it reacted briefly. Unfortunately I did not have the recording equipment with me and when I came with it at 10:00 AM I could find no trace of the bird; playback brought no result. The area at base of bill (with bill closed) is quite prominent (red) in this bird. At this time T. obscura is singing and nesting in this immediate area. 12 Oct - Between 7:00 & 8:00 AM what was perhaps the same bird was heard to sing (some of its song is heard in background of Cut [blank] of T. obscura) but today it did not react to playback, nor did it sing for long. ML: Background subject changed from Drymophila caudata to D. klagesi to reflect current taxonomy. --Jay McGowan 19Sep201.
