Observation details
HOLY SHITTT. I nearly stepped on this bird; poor guy gave me a couple disgruntled clucks and started foraging ~5’ from me. I sat and watched for about five minutes in complete awe. Buddy didn’t seem to mind. Top 3 birding experience for sure; absolutely magical. Edit: This bird was not flagged, notably very common for the area. Not technically a lifer for me either, although I don’t think I’ll ever get better looks at one; I saw a flock at a great distance hiking mt. Bierstadt in 2022 with my mom, but that was my only prior experience with the species. I feel so incredibly lucky to have stumbled across such a tame bird in full winter plumage.
