Observation details
Continuing birds, along the main trail toward the point, first near the burnt stump, then spooked by passersby to ~50 yards farther north. Male transitioning from basic to alternate plumage has mostly black belly, mottled chestnut collar. Two female-plumaged birds overall deep buffy color with sparse fine black streaks on underparts, narrow black malars, and isolated dark spot at rear of auricular. All have gray bills, very long primary projection, and white triangular mark toward bases of outer rectrices (only visible in flight). Gave distinctive “kiddle-kiddle” calls in flight.
