Observation details
MEGA!! Photos!! Large Calonectris shearwater, larger than the Wedge-tailed Shearwaters around it. The bright white face and throat, streaking into brown on the crown and nape, with the very long pale bluish-gray bill were obvious field marks that caught our attention and separated it from the other birds present. The clean white underside and undertail with no dark marks were also a field mark noted. The bird was loafing with a large flock of WTSH, and after finding it and getting a few photos, we lost it in the mix as they started to take off, and we couldn’t relocate the bird. It slipped through in the excitement of the discovery! Seems to be a first country record!
