Media notes
Male excavates from inside the cavity, then backs out, revealing ID as RBWO. (Both RBWO & RHWO at this site, so before he backed out, I was unsure which species I had here). Female appears, peers into cavity to check male's progress, then hitches up the tree off camera where copulation between the pair takes place.
Observation details
Male excavating nest with only tail visible at first. Pulled entire body out of cavity for confirmation on species. Gave churr call and female showed up at cavity. Nest in underside of dead stub in white oak adjacent to parking lot. A second nest is in a dead stub viewed from mid way along the trail 205° SSW of a fallen log on E side of trail with branch into ground… photo taken. Just before s curve in trail as you are heading toward the lake. Cavity oriented toward N. The two nests are designated RBWO TL1 and RBWO TL2 respectively. TL is for Timberlakes and the numbers are assigned in the order that the nests are found at the site.
