Observation details

*Rare. Seen at 39.830560, -71.686295 in 68.5° F water. No doubt attracted to growing congregation of Great Shearwaters off the stern. Large Stercorarius with striking white flashes on both upper and underwing at base of primaries. Plumage appeared fresh with all primaries intact, uniform brownish above with indistinct pale scaling and no real defined collar contrast, suggestive of a non-adult. Perhaps a slightly lighter toned head and neck with A bit of pale feathering noted at base of bill. Photos attached.
