Observation details
Landed just above me as I headed east after several hours at Piper Spit, 8 feet overhead. Pecking away silently into soft wood which dropped onto trail. Flashed its wings wide in warning several times while working top of tree. After it flew away I saw a small squirrel it was obviously disturbing. Pics
