Observation details
Wonderful surprise! Initially seen with binoculars while I was scanning a flock of Canada Geese and the black/light gray contrasting colors of this goose really stood out, even at a distance. Switching to scope, I could see the details consistent with Barnacle Goose: white face mask with black connecting eye to stubby black bill. Black hood extending down neck and back, turning into alternating lateral gray and black lines across back, with some of the black lines I could see were fringed in white. Black back/chest contrasted sharply with light gray flanks/belly. About the size of a Cackling Goose so noticeably smaller than the Canadas it was fraternizing with. Digiscoped video and photos taken. Multiple observers eventually showed up to view this fairly cooperative bird.
