Observation details
Minimum 4 birds that were easily seen and heard from the trailhead and/or parking area, as well as along the trail. Based on calls, there were probably more birds in the area. Two were very close to the Oakleaf Trailhead (one adult and one immature; the immature had very dark sections of feathers around the eyes). Adult birds had crimson heads, white breasts, and black wings with white sections. One of the adult birds was along the trail at the top of the hill and chased a Red-bellied Woodpecker off of a tree. A fourth bird (immature) had an all-dark head with a small red patch. Photos.
