Observation details
Continuing adult female moving S relatively low along shoreline. Initially found yesterday 2/4 by Michael Schramm at San Elijo Lagoon, and re-found this morning at Fletcher Cove Beach in Del Mar by multiple observers. Initially identified in photos as a Lesser, rather than Magnificent Frigatebird by Gary Nunn. Like adult female MAFR, but with white breast and belly extending solidly into axillaries and up over shoulders, creating a white collar across upper back. At close range and in photos, showed an obvious dark pinkish-red orbital ring and gular skin underneath bill. At times also appeared to show a proportionately shorter, more shallowly forked tail (especially when spread) compared to ad f MAFR. Photos.
