Observation details

*rare and awesome surprise - assumed first this was a rufous until Merlin suggested Calliope based on sound recording. Further study showed most physical characteristics did match calliope. Small female type hummingbird (size hard to judge without any other birds in comparison), green on back and on top of head, rufous flanks, didn’t see tail stick out from behind wings when sitting, throat speckled green without any orange or darker spots. Bill length hard to judge. Adding sound recording here, as well as an excerpt of it by Noah Steinberg, both match up with Calliope. Bird has been present since December but at the time misidentified it as rufous/allens hummingbird. At entrance to herb garden feeding on Camelias. (29.6120592, -82.4064859)
