Observation details
MEGA!!! Incredible to see such a majestic creature. Sleeping when we arrived, in the front of all the Canadas on the ice. Very broad, white edged secondaries and warmer brown than surrounding birds. When it finally looked up, extensive orange reaching to the nostrils, steep forehead, and straight long bill were clearly seen. Road-cone orange legs seen once it stood up. Seemingly the first US and 2nd (?) ABA record of A. f. fabalis, which has extensive orange, as opposed to A. f. middendorfii which is more similar to Tundra BG. Very cool study opportunity and amazing bird!
