Observation details
Found just before 0800 in good early morning light, watched for nearly an hour feeding actively and roosting/preening for periods. Clearly a gallinago snipe, Lathams most likely based on distribution, species identification also supported by plumage and structural details. Relatively large size and heavy build, overall pale buffy plumage tones, relatively lightly marked face and obviously long tail all differentiate from e.g. Swinhoes (albeit latter unlikely based on geographic range).
