Observation details

The hooded mergansers were in groups all over the lake and really too many to be counted. I counted about 100 through my binoculars in one area of the lake and there were other groups in other areas of the lake. I drove over to a more secluded cove and there were even more. I will add a couple of pictures that illustrate the concentration of these birds that were all over this large lake. This week has been much colder than usual because of artic air that moved in. This weather pattern even brought snow to New Orleans. Perhaps the colder than usual weather may account for the numbers. I also saw 6 mergansers this morning on Grace Lake where I live. They were the first I have seen there this year.
