Observation details

Seen well, though glare strong, initially at distance foraging with characteristic energetic behaviours. Skittish, flushed as observer approached pool, circled for several minutes before settling on shoreline. Loosely associated with white-faced herons, similar size but different structure, LE noticeably longer-legged for example. No head plumes, some aigrettes, dark legs, yellowish lores: presume older (i.e. not juvenile) bird in non-breeding plumage.
