Observation details
Among large mixed flock of Clark’s nutcrackers and northern flickers. First saw it as it flew away from me and it just looked black. Wondered if it was the Steller’s Jay I had spotted a few moments before and thought the black was just because it was in shadow. As it landed on a tree trunk, like a woodpecker, not a Jay, I noticed the pinkish red belly and gray nape indicative of Lewis’s woodpecker. Got mobbed by a couple of Clark's nutcrackers, which seem just a hair larger than the Lewis's Woodpecker. Too far away for good photos, but I got some poor ones I will add.
