Observation details
Adult male. See checklist comments for additional details. Record reported by the rehab program at the Abilene Zoo. Interestingly, report states: that the bird "has a broken wing at the metacarpals. It looks like it’s an old injury and it’s dead so he must’ve found a good tree or something that he lived in because he has really good body condition." If this bird can't fly, if the injury is old and healed, and if the bird's body condition is good, that does seem very unexpected. Did this bird possibly spend an entire year here in Abilene? Could it be survivor from last winter?
