Observation details
**01.13.25 Thanks to John McKay who relocated this bird on 01.09 in Washington County, ID’d it as a Taiga Bean goose and got great pictures. Has subsequently been seen and photographed by several others and there is consensus. Got thumbs up to update species. Tried to see the bird again last weekend but sadly didn’t (missed him/her by ~10 min Sat). *12.31.24 II: I originally id’d this as a greater white front. But after feedback from the rare bird review person, looks like this is likely a pink-footed goose. Updated species. Will try for better pics tomorrow (fingers crossed). 12.31.24 I:In with Canada geese standing at edge of ice. Preened a little then napped while standing. Brownish head and body, no markings on face, bright orange legs. Smaller than the other geese who were also standing (most were laying down). Additional: ran home grabbed camera (for what it is worth). When I returned he/she was swimming so got better looks through the binoculars: beak is a light orangey colour; chest (at base of neck) was buff colour and much less bright than the Canda’s; he/she was ~3/4 the size of the Canada's around it. Tail seemed a bit shorter to me as well. Had a white rump under tail feathers. Posted the pictures I could get with my kit. Sorry - not great. I added circles to show where he/she is; and cropped the last three to help show what was seen.
