Same place next A.M. The mike is now closer to the "display site." The first bird was heard to arrive about 5:25AM but no song occurred until the second bird arrived about one minute later. (This cut has Ortalis in first part and Cicadas in latter half. For recordings preceding this, see Cut #6 [LNS 64033.mf] of Ortalis motmot.) This recording starts with arrival of first bird. It was still practically dark at this time. Gradually other birds are heard to arrive. Five to eight male birds present. Voice notes throughout. 13'-36" Paper spacer [marking beginning of a second section of the whole open reel recording.mf] @~5:40AM - - (corresp. roughly to start of Reel 2) Continues, starting @ 5:45AM (Voice comments continue). ~1':40" of "pure song" edited out ~6:05AM and filed as Cut 2b) [LNS 66609.mf] of Atalotriccus pilaris. ~1':05" ditto @ 6:10AM. ~1':10" ditto @ 6:15AM; main activity ceased ~6:20AM. 20'-15" Spacer [marking beginning of a third section of the whole open reel recording.mf] Some silent periods cut after that, other retained to give overall effect of the "end of the session." End at 6:45AM. 9'-49". A number of other birds heard in b.g.: Atalotriccus pilaris, Myrmeciza longipes, Crypturellus nostivagus(erythropus), Columba speciosa, Dryocopus lineatus, and others. After some min. flew up and sat beside a displaying bird who then began preening his wings "like mad", one side then the other side.
