Observation details
Apparently prospecting for a nest—in a crazy location. See MLML627921290. That's cool. And check this out: At one point, the dipper was very near a Sharp-shinned Hawk (apparent adult female) standing at the water's edge, and the dipper called shrilly at the SSHA until it flushed. Videos: ML627921313: The dipper just "dipping." (Although Rick Wright now informs me that "dipper" refers to a different behavior. Ah well.) ML627921322: The dipper feeding in place, as the species often does. ML627921323: The dipper feeding while swimming upstream, another common foraging method.
