Observation details
From notebook: "Crisply marked juvenile, present for its third day. I could not find it during the first 45 minutes of searching, but when a Peregrine put up all the shorebirds I saw it flying only 30' up directly over my head. Shortly after that I found it feeding along the grassy margin of the pond (e. half of the more northerly of the DU ponds [=Ducks Unlimited"]/ I watched it for 25 min, getting several photos (including a flight shot). A very distinctive shorebird, about the size of a Ruddy Turnstone but with slightly slimmer body and much longer neck and, especially, legs. Legs deep yellow with slight greenish tint. Scaly plumage above; all deep buff below; medium short straight bill with distinctive "underbite" -- feathering extending farther out lower mandible than upper. Underwing linings conspicuously white in flight."
