Observation details

This count is the result of a coordinated effort at 8 locations throughout the McClaren neighborhood. Wood ducks have been proliferating because people have erected wood duck houses and have been feeding them. They have also become less skittish. Photos taken at one of the locations show typical densities, and the fact that they associate with mallards and widgeons, which we counted later in the day. The WODUs move around the neighborhood throughout the day, so this is the second year we decided to count them at a specific hour for the local Christmas bird count. We found them at 5 of the 9 locations we checked.
