Observation details
Male and female working through the foliage just below our villa overlook. Details of structure (shorter, thinner bill) and plumage (minimal extent of maroon below a thin blue breastband) evidently favor Tsavo/Purple-banded-type Cinnyris, rather than the more expected Marico Sunbird. Images of such birds have apparently been flagged with increasing frequency in the north-central portion of Kenya. In an effort to increase awareness of this developing identification puzzle in the Laikipia region, guidance from the local eBird review team now recommends listing such birds as Tsavo Sunbirds. Per my own correspondence with local reviewers over the identity of the individuals in these photos, I have updated this submission accordingly
