Observation details
An apparently previously unknown site for these birds -perhaps more relaible than any of the currently visited ones. Noticing the roadside water troughs were functioning well and attracting a few Yellow Canaries we decided to make a brief stop. Just before we departed, after ~25 minutes the first Sclaters arrived to the trough. Thereafter multiple singles and small groups flew back and forth across the road to visit the well - usually flying in from considerable distance. It was not possible to ascertain whether all birds were new individuals or if some groups were making repeated visits, but the total stated here is the lower end of our estimate for numbers. Birds continued to arrive and depart for at least the next 30 minuntes when we had to leave due to time constraints. This site is pretty remote and spare tires are advisable since in is accessed via ~70km + of gravel roads. Birdquest tour led by Simon Mitchell & Thibaut Chansac.
