Observation details
Two individuals were heard calling from the more easterly portion of cattail marsh south of the railbed. At least six more were heard in the more westerly portion of the cattail marsh near the open water (pond), five south of the railbed and one to the north. Standing on the edge of the railbed, I was able to watch the interaction of two birds that were very close together and assumed to be a mated pair. Photographs of these birds revealed courtship feeding was observed, a fact I did not realize until examining the photographs later. This confirmed my suspicions at the time that these two birds were indeed a mated pair.
