Observation details
A first-cycle individual was seen well with a spotting scope while it was standing on the far side of Gangplank Marina for at least 20 minutes before it flew up the Washington Channel. About the same size as nearby Herring Gulls with a more rounded head and a smaller, all-dark bill, uniform pale-brownish plumage including primaries that were not noticeably darker than the body and finely-patterned upperparts as a result of white edges. Poorly photographed by me due to distance and light rain but well photographed by Kyle and Menachem, who initially spotted the bird and got a nice photograph of it in flight as it departed.
