Observation details
Prior to sighting, unaware this was a continuing bird. Immediately noticed a waterthrush bobbing and moving low when I started looking through the river bed from atop bridge (32.5540616, -117.0839639). Waterthrush ID attained from following visual cues: smallish songbird with brown upperparts and pale underparts with dark detail, typical parulid shape (horizontal body profile, sharp-mid-sized bill, mid-sized tail and head, not overly chunky), and exhibiting bobbing behaviour. Bird quickly left view and I was unable to get another visual but did note quick staccato pit calls (Merlin was in agreement of my own personal assessment of these calls as being from NOWA; note Merlin only used as supporting evidence for ID).
