Observation details

Well-known location for this species. Very vocal in the waning light of the early evening. Heard at least three birds calling from both sides of the road, all in close proximity of each other. Initial calls were raspy, single-note chips, higher pitched than a COYE's. Subsequent calls were one and two-note, lower-pitched ratchety sounds (which I attempted to record). Good looks (for low light) at one individual who popped up near the edge of the road, close to me. Small bird with a stiff, upright tail and an unstreaked chest. White throat, which contrasted with the rest of the underside, was visible in the remaining light. Streaks were visible on the bird's back.
