Observation details
Seen in flight by Gene Revelas, noted the white U shape on the tail and the black cap, white collar and no W pattern on back like a Buller's Shearwater. Later Chuck Jensen showed a picture of this bird on the water before it flew. Didn't realize at the time that it was different!
