Observation details
Was taken by surprise when this bird flew in close and fed for about a minute in the Texas sage (Salvia) plants close by. Could only muster poor cellphone photos. Very pale buff shade to sides but otherwise all the field marks I'm used to seeing on Ruby-throated Hummingbird: white tail corners on black tail, green back, head (contrasting white throat), and green on much of uppertail, and longish but not curved bill. No orange visible on tail. Unfortunately, photos are not clear enough to show much detail and I did not have access to binoculars at the time. General size, shape that of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds I saw nearly daily at these same plants from summer through October 1.
