Observation details
See Photos. New bird for me. To be honest, I probably would have completely misidentified this bird and moved on! Bird is grayish brown on the nape and back versus very dark in a black phoebe. Definitely more brownish/gray to my eye. Dark almost black crown and face down to black bill. Indistinct wingbar. Breast seems a creamish or light yellowish white, though the yellow is very subtle in the bird I saw. Does not have the very contrasty black/white contrast of a Black Phoebe. Bill and feet black or very dark. Wings (secondaries?) have white edging as do outer tail feathers. There is a distinct grayish patch on the sides which meets the creamy-yellow breast. Flanks are cream-yellow. Super to see the bird. And easiest bird EVER to get. I parked found the bird before entering past the trailhead and walked over toward to fire station to get better photos. Easy peasy.
