Observation details
Found with a small flock of American Pipits about halfway between Atlantic and Slauson, Ave. The flock moved around, but came back a few times, and eventually flew downriver. A bold and streaky pipit, with thick contrasty longitudinal black, brown and whitish streaks on the back, a brownish face, thickly streaked underparts on a combination of buffy and white underparts. The bill was partly yellow at the base of the lower mandible. The malar steak was thick and dark. Legs were pale pink. Bobbed its tail repeatedly as it foraged. We heard it call on 3 of 5 flights we saw it make: a thin descending "swee" call mixed in with the shorter repeated calls of the American Pipits. Mark may have recordings.
