Observation details
pulled over to look at black spot on a sprinkler pivot approx 400 yards distant -- large uniformly black buteo with lengthy tail, yellow legs and yellow cere with a whitish/gray base. Very distant photo revealed two white tail bands, bottom one larger and complete -- upper band narrower and appeared shorter or incomplete. As I was setting up my scope, the hawk disappeared, but I was able to relocate -- through scope in flight soaring. Long wings, slightly tapered toward the tips -- remiges underneath slivery gray in contrast with darker leading edges and body and held wings in a slight dihedral -- mimicking a turkey vulture. last seen heading NE over the Sangres.
