Observation details
Bird initially sitting on nest flew out carrying something white in her beak. We supposed it was a fecal sac at first until she landed atop one of the wooden beams and appeared to work it over a bit with her beak. After 5-10s of this, she flew off with it and dropped it apparently by accident. Upon investigation, we discovered it was half of an eggshell! Later we watched her mate also carry a white item away from the nest and over to the exposed sand to the south. He released it once, caught it, and released it once more at which point it fell gently to the sand, undoubtedly buoyed by the strong wind. Presumably this was another piece of eggshell.
