Observation details
High tide, so the sparrows were up in the bushes and grass along the edge of the marsh, one giving excellent views. They struck me as very bright so I sent the photos to Aidan Kiley, who confirmed they are the Interior subspecies. He added that they are super bright orange, tiny bill, white braces on the back. The streaking is crisper and darker than Atlantic, lacks the “grayed out” look, and there is a strong demarcation between orange breast and underparts, along with a high contrast facial pattern. Adding photos of both individuals.
