Observation details

Seconds after I gave a bout of NSWO song at my first stop, a barred owl gave a "who cooks for you" call from almost directly behind me and at most a few dozen m from the road. It then flew directly over my head and across the road, landing in the nearest tall trees just beyond the road edge. A second owl began vocalizing, and the two began overlapping calls including both caterwauling and WCFY doublets for a couple of minutes. Less than half-a-minute after the last WCFY, one of the owls began a ~5-minute series of solo long hoots. In the 9th minute of this count, a third barred owl began giving solo long hoots in the distance to the SE, probably one heard at that location on the previous checklist. On the second stop of this checklist, a fourth barred owl gave 3 solo long hoots to the N of me in the first 5 minutes, and then (presumably the same bird?) gave 2 WCFY doublets from the same direction and approximate direction during the second 5 minutes.
